Biography
Dr Anil Kumar Gupta did his Ph.D. in biochemistry in 1978. He worked as a full Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Punjab Agricultural University, Ludhiana, India from 1997 to 2014 and also served as Head of the Department of Biochemistry for four years. He has guided 14 Ph.D. and 17 M.Sc. students for their thesis work. As member of the Broad Subject Matter Area Committee (BSMA) for restructuring of Masters & Doctorate course Curricula & Syllabi in Basic sciences, constituted by Director General of ICAR, he was instrumental in modifying the syllabus of Biochemistry in state agricultural universities of India. His H-index is 25 and has more than 2000 citations. His laboratory developed an easy procedure for the isolation of inulin, a functional food, from chicory roots and amylase inhibitor from wheat flour. He has worked on major cereal and pulse crops like wheat, maize, chickpea, mungbean, lentil and cowpea and vegetable crops like potato, turnip and pea. He acted as a PI/Co-PI/collaborator in different adhoc projects from different funding agencies like ICAR, DST, DBT, UGC, ICMR, INSA, CSIR and ICMR. He is in the panel of editorial board of many journals. In addition he has interest in Himalayan travels.
Research Interest
His main areas of research interests include enzymology, mechanism of abiotic and biotic stress tolerance in plants, functional foods, carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism.
