Ahmed Okasha

Prof. Ahmed Okasha is currently President of the Egyptian Psychiatric Association, Honorary President of the Arab Federation of Psychiatry, member of the WPA Council and President World Psychiatric Association (2002 – 2005). Also, Prof. Ahmed Okasha is the only psychiatrist who has received the highest two awards in science from the Egyptian Academy of Science; the state prize in medicine in 2007 and the Mubarak Award in medical sciences 2010”.

Biography
In January 2011, the President of Ain Shams University signed a decree at the request of the Higher Council of Ain Shams University officially changing the name of the Institute of Psychiatry, Ain Shams University to “Okasha Institute of Psychiatry” Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University. The change in name came as stated by the Ain Shams University President due to: “The continuous work done over the years by Prof. Ahmed Okasha in promoting psychiatry as a medical branch, promoting mental health and his initiative in planning and funding the Institute of Psychiatry which is one of two WHO Collaborating Centers for Research and Training in Mental Health in the WHO-EMRO. He has also played a key role in improving the image of psychiatry and the psychiatric patient’s rights in Egypt and the Arab World.
