Dr. Ismail worked in Alberta for 6 years in an academic setting and then in 2005 took a sabbatical at the University of Toronto during which he did a fellowship in Geriatric Neuropsychiatry. he is also a faculty appointment at the University of Toronto and became head of the CAMH Memory Clinic. After 6 years in Toronto he returned to Calgary in August 2011 and has joint appointments with Psychiatry and Neurology in the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary. He is certified in Behavioural Neurology and Neuropsychiatry by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties and has been a Board Member and Annual Scientific Meeting Chair of the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry.
Biography
Dr. Ismail attended both medical school and residency in Alberta finishing in 1999. He worked in Alberta for 6 years in an academic setting and then in 2005 took a sabbatical at the University of Toronto during which he did a fellowship in Geriatric Neuropsychiatry. Subsequently, Dr. Ismail took a faculty appointment at the University of Toronto and became head of the CAMH Memory Clinic. After 6 years in Toronto he returned to Calgary in August 2011 and has joint appointments with Psychiatry and Neurology in the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary. He is working with both adult and geriatric patients across the neuropsychiatric spectrum. He is certified in Behavioural Neurology and Neuropsychiatry by the United Council for Neurologic Subspecialties and has been a Board Member and Annual Scientific Meeting Chair of the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry. Dr. Ismail’s research interests are in clinical psychopharmacology, characterization of neuropsychiatric symptoms of dementia and MCI, cognitive screening and functional neuroimaging of neuropsychiatric illnesses. Dr. Ismail has over 30 peer reviewed publications, several book chapters and conference proceedings and has been a recipient of grant funding from the National Institute of Aging (US) and the Canadian Institute of Health Research.
